Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The main goal of the project is to develop a practical gold ions recovery technique in ammonium thiosulfate, a green/eco-friendly mining solvent, via galvanic interactions between zero-valent aluminum (ZVAl) and activated carbon (AC) to eliminate the challenges of poor recovery of the system. The results will have important industrial implications of the eco-friendly solvent in the mineral processing/resource recycling field where precious metals are the main industry. At the end of this project, we are expecting to change the paradigm of the current gold- metallurgy. In FY2019, the possibility of the recovery technique (i.e., ZVAl-AC technique) of gold ions from the ammonium thiosulfate solution was investigated in the model solution system. The achievements were as follows: Accepted 1 paper at Q1 international journal and 4 presentations at international conferences.
The achievements in FY2021 were as follows: a. Identification of the optimum recovery conditions, effects of coexisting metal ions on recovery technique, and mechanisms were studied via batch-type and electrochemical experiments: Submitted 2 papers at Q1 international Journals, and 1 presentation at an international conference with the best presentation award. a. To widen the scope of the research field, evaluation of the removal of the toxic/hazardous metal ions from the acidic solutions by the ZVAl-AC technique was carried out: Accepted 2 papers at Q1 international journals and 2 presentations at internal conferences. c. A review paper was published to a Q1 international journal.
