Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
(1) Research on Sekota: Online interviews were made with local historians and NGOs to reveal the history of the town. Photos of traditional circular houses were collected with the cooperation of the Sekota Development Association. (2) Discussions on Ethiopian regulations related to heritage preservation: Online meetings were made to discuss the current situation related to regulations. (3) Japanese Tea House project in Addis Ababa: The team researched the history of the Japanese Tea House. Renovation and fundraising plans were made and presented to relevant organizations. (4) Research on St Michael Tokyo, Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo: Architectural drawing was made. Interview with the church board committee revealed the strong global network of the church community.

4: Progress in research has been delayed.
Reason
Due to the situation of covid-19, the team could not travel to Ethiopia to make field surveys. Close communication with the Ethiopian community in Tokyo has helped develop strong networks with the local Ethiopian organizations and make online interviews possible. The information collected this year will be the basis of the field surveys that are postponed for the next fiscal year.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
(1) Research on Sekota: Additional online meetings are scheduled for next fiscal year. Finalization of heritage map. Take measurements of circular houses. (2) Discussions on Ethiopian regulations related to heritage preservation: Collect further information on regulations. (3) Japanese Tea House project in Addis Ababa: Actual renovation work will start next year. (4) Research on Addis Ababa: Take measurements of heritage buildings and conduct interviews.

Causes of Carryover |
Travels could not be made this year due to covid-19. It will be postponed until next year.
