Outline of Annual Research Achievements

In Jul-Dec 2021 I visited UK and led a joint experiment on coherent x-ray emission by relativistic plasma singularities (BISER). In 2022 we analyzed the very important data for the BISER mechanism and singularity studies: (1) BISER ~2 orders of magnitude brighter than previously with similar lasers, (2) spatial-angular-spectral BISER x-ray distribution obtained with new spectrograph, (3) Kerr-gated relativistic plasma imaging. We are preparing papers (1),(2). Because of low S/N ratio and artifacts due to polarizers leakage, I am considering delaying (3) until obtaining higher-S/N data.

In 2022 I led an experiment in Japan. We shortened the optical probe from ~50 down to 18 fs and obtained high-quality relativistic plasma probing in the shadow and Schlieren modes. A paper is in preparation. We also advanced our high-resolution "Top View" imaging, improved its alignment method, and obtained a few-μm spatial and simultaneously spectral resolutions. We recorded emission at the 1st, 2nd and 3rd harmonics in the direction perpendicular to laser propagation. Data analysis is not yet completed, but this emission can potentially be originating from relativistic singularities as well.

I visited UK on 4-23 Dec 2022. We performed follow-up research, discussions on paper preparation and made plans for future collaboration.
In addition to 3 papers in 2021, in 2022 we published a refereed paper on using relativistic plasma singularities, i.e. accelerating relativistic flying mirror, in planned experiments on mimicking black hole Hawking radiation [Photonics (2022)].
