Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本国際研究では、人工知能(AI)を利用した大腸内視鏡検査により、「命を救える」ことを証明する。共同研究者である三澤将史らが中心となって開発した内視鏡用AIは内視鏡検査中に大腸ポリープ等を自動で検出し、医師の見落としを予防することが期待されている（Misawa M, Kudo S, Mori Y, et al. Gastroenterology 2018）。このAIによって、将来の癌死が実際に抑制できるかどうかを検証することが、本研究の目的である。
具体的には、内視鏡疫学研究の先駆者であるオスロ大学の協力のもと、ノルウェー独自の「死亡データが自動リンクする公的検診レジストリー」を研究利用することで、超低コストで大規模前向き試験(N=10,000)を実施する。介入後の10年間の予後追跡ができる研究基盤を作ることが本研究の要旨である。
日本で開発した内視鏡AIをあえてノルウェーに持ち込むことで、立証困難であったエビデンスを構築し、世界の大腸癌死亡者数減少にいち早く貢献することが、本研究の目的である。

2019年度は、オスロ大学との緊密な連携を確認するとともに研究プロトコルの基軸部分を作成し、2020年度からの本格的な展開の準備作業を行った。これは当初の想定内の研究内容である。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

2020年度中にプロトコルを作成し、研究開始ができるようノルウェーでの体制（データセンター・IRB・加入病院との連携・AI機器の搬入）を整備する。
