Research Abstract

カイラル・フォトニック欠陥構造における群速度異常、光局在効果などに基づく光-分子強結合場の創成と機能応用を目指して研究を行った。得られた主な成果は以下のとおりである。(1)三次元的に螺旋周期構造の発達したコレステリック・プルー相液晶のフォトニックバンド構造の解明を行った。すなわち、コレステリック・ブルー相は、三次元螺旋構造を形成するが、構造内に液晶の配向の乱れた欠陥構造を形成すると言われている。そこで、分子動力学計算により求めた配向テンソル分布をもとにして、時間領域差分法(FDTD法)を用いたシミュレーションを行い、コレステリック・ブルー相のフォトニックバンド構造を検討した。その結果、ブルー相内では、単なるコレステリック相の選択反射バンドのみならず、欠陥構造に起因する高次のバンドが観測されることが明らかとなった。また、欠陥部位に高誘電率材料を導入することにより、完全フォトニックバンドギャップが発現する可能性があることを見出した。(2)コレステリック・ブルー相の固定化の手法として、光重合性液晶を用いて、三次元螺旋周期構造を形成した後に紫外光を照射して構造の固定化を行った。その結果、照射紫外高強度が弱い場合には、構造の崩れが観測され、ある閾値以上の紫外光照射による重合が構造の固定化に必要であることを明らかにした。(3)光重合による構造固定化がレーザー発振特性に及ぼす影響を調べた。その結果、固定化前にはブルー相IおよびIIの何れの相においてもレーザー発振が観測されたが、固定化後は、ブルー相Iで発振が観測されたにもかかわらず、重合前にブルー相Iに比べて低い閾値でレーザー発振していたブルー相IIでは観測されないことを示した。
