重い電子系化合物の新奇超伝導状態の解明

Research Abstract

f 電子を持つCe などの希土類元素を含む金属間化合物では、f電子と伝導電子の近藤効果による混成のために、狭いバンドが形成され、電子の有効質量が自由電子の100 倍以上重くなったいわゆる「重い電子状態」が実現される。このような系で超伝導電子対が形成されると、強いクーロン斥力のため、通常の超伝導とは異なる対称性を持った異方的な超伝導状態が実現する。これまで重い電子系化合物では、これまでに異常な超伝導相が発見されており、その超伝導状態は多種多様で、想像していたものよりもはるかに興味あるものとなっている事が明らかになっている.さらにその超伝導状態はいわゆる磁気的秩序状態(量子臨界点)近傍で生じることが多く、そ超伝導の舞台となるノーマル状態も、従来のフェルミ液体とは大きく異なる振る舞いを示すこともわかってきている。
本研究では、これまでに前例のない重い電子系の人工超格子を作製して新奇超伝導状態を創出し、さらに従来の実験手法の分解能を上げるだけでなく、新しい実験手法を開発し様々な新奇超伝導状態やノーマル状態における異常な電気的、磁気的状態を解明した.
最も大きな成果は重い電子を2次元に閉じこめ、これまでにはない新しい強相関電子系を創成することに成功したことである.これまでの重い電子家化合物はすべて3次元的な電子構造を持っていた.我々は新しい分子線エピタキシー法の装置を開発しまずCeIn3/LaIn3の人工超格子を作製した.これにより量子臨界性の次元制御に世界で初めて思考した.さらにCeCoIn5/YbCoIn5の人工超格子を作製し世界で初めて2次元近藤格子が超伝導に転移することを見いだした.さらに2次元の重い電子系の示す超伝導は極めて特異なものであることが明らかになった.
