Research Abstract

f電子を持つCeなどの希土類元素やUなどのアクチノイド元素を含む金属間化合物では、f電子と伝導電子の近藤効果による混成のために狭いバンドが形成され、電子の有効質量が自由電子の100倍以上重くなったいわゆる「重い電子状態」が実現される。このような系で超伝導電子対が形成されると、強いクーロン斥力のため通常の超伝導とは異なる対称性を持った異方的な超伝導状態が実現する。実際、重い電子系化合物では、これまでに異常な超伝導相が発見されており、その超伝導状態は多種多様で想像していたものよりもはるかに興味あるものとなっている事が明らかになってきた。さらにその超伝導状態はいわゆる磁気的秩序状態(量子臨界点)近傍で生じることが多く、超伝導の舞台となるノーマル状態も従来のフェルミ液体とは大きく異なる振る舞いを示すこともわかってきている。
本研究の目的は、上述した超伝導状態を解明するために、これまでに前例のない重い電子系の人工超格子を作製して新奇超伝導状態を創出すること、さらに従来の実験手法の分解能を上げるだけでなく新しい実験手法を開発し、様々な新奇超伝導状態やノーマル状態における異常な電気的、磁気的状態を解明することである。
