Research Abstract

地球上でこれまでに起きた生物の大量絶滅の中でも特に規模が大きかった2つの事件について、原因およびプロセスの解明を試みる。そのために、日本、欧州、中国など世界の数カ所の重要な地域において、絶滅境界を挟んだ地層試料を連続採取するため、野外地質調査に加えてボーリング掘削を行い、得られた岩石について堆積相や化石年代を探るともに化学分析を行う。
