Research Abstract

(1)日本近海が主産地である宝石サンゴの資源枯渇が懸念されており、平成19年6月に開催された第14同ワシントン条約締約国会議では国際取引規制(附属書IIへの掲載)対象種として議論された。しかし、日本産宝石サンゴ類の成長速度、繁殖期、資源量等の科学的知見がないため、規制の是非を判断することができない。本研究は、日本近海における宝石サンゴの生態を明らかにすることで持続的に利用可能な資源量の評価を行うことを目的とする。
(2)深海カメラ、水中ロボット等を用い、日本近海の宝石サンゴの分布密度、分布様式、生物量等を推定する。
(3)宝石サンゴ骨軸の成長線の計数及び鉛放射性同位元素を用いた年代測定を行うことで、成長速度を推定する。
(4)ミトコンドリアゲノム解析により、種間及び種内の遺伝的変異を明らかにする。
