擬2次元遷移金属酸化物における異方的電荷・軌道物性の制御

Research Abstract

本研究では、層状マンガン酸化物やニッケル酸化物など擬2次元遷移金属酸化物のスピン電荷軌道秩序における機能性を開拓することを目的としている。特に、スピン・電荷・軌道の自由度がもたらす秩序の"director"(方向性)としての性質に着目し、低対称歪みと電荷軌道の方向的秩序の結合などを利用しつつ、これらがもたらす誘電率、抵抗率、弾性率、磁化率などにおける巨大な異方性を探求する。
本年度に得た成果の具体例を以下に述べる。まず、K2NiF4型層状マンガン酸化物R_<1-x>Sr_<1+x>MnO_4(R=Nd,La)を対象とし、電荷・軌道密度波の形成によって生じる集団励起の観測をテラヘルツ領域の光学測定によって行った。テラヘルツ光の振動電場が層と平行の場合において10meV付近に集団励起による吸収構造が現れる事が分かった。xを変えてマンガンのeg電子濃度を系統的に変えた場合の集団励起を調べたところ、ハーフドープ(x=0.5)では吸収構造が消失する様子が見られた。このような顕著な電子濃度依存性は電子相関およびヤーンテラー相互作用によって生じているものと考えられる。
また、層状ニッケル化合物における電荷ダイナミクスと電子構造について光学測定、角度分解光電子分光を用いて調べた。その結果、金属絶縁体転移近傍にあるEuO.1Srl.1NiO4においてx2-y2軌道のキャラクターを持つホールの大きなフェルミ面と擬ギャップが生じている事を見出した。このような電子構造は層状銅酸化物でも見られているが、本系の反強磁性相互作用が層状銅酸化物と比較して一桁小さい事を考慮すると、これは実空間での電荷秩序の相関に起因すると考えられる。
