Research Abstract |
Chorus emissions are electromagnetic waves with rising-tone frequencies observed in the Earth's magnetosphere. Computer simulations of the wave-particle interaction show that waves grow to form coherent large amplitude waves, causing electron precipitation to the atmosphere. A fraction of the resonant electrons are accelerated to relativistic energy in a short time scale of a few hours. Generation of chorus emissions is a key process of radiation belt formation.
