Research Abstract

光合成細菌での光エネルギー変換機能をもつ光合成アンテナタンパク質/色素複合体(LH2)ならびに反応中心を含むアンテナタンパク質/色素複合体(LH1-RC)は生体色素分子が積み木のごとく階層的組織体を構成し、高効率な光エネルギー変換機能をもつ自己組織化膜を作る。この色素複合体は、ナノレベルで高度に制御されおり、この機能を分子レベルで明らかにすることは、生命活動の基本である生体エネルギー変換システムを理解するうえで非常に興味深い。しかしながら、このタンパク質/色素複合体の動的な構造と機能の関係は分子レベルでまだ明らかでない。本研究では、精密合成あるいは分子生物学的手法を用いて調製した光合成アンテナ色素複合体の組織化を電極基板上で行う。そして、この色素複合体の構造と機能との相関について世界に先駆けて明らかにする。また、この色素複合体の階層的なナノ組織体を巧みに作成し、基板上で高効率な光捕集ならびに光電変換機能をもつタンパク質/色素複合体の構築を目指し、高効率な光エネルギー機能をもつナノバイオデバイス開発への重要な指針を提供する。
