Research Abstract

本年度は、重要な関連物質として高密度構造を有するコバルト酸化物に着目した。ハーフメタル特性の発現を期待して、層状ペロブスカイト型構造を有するSr3Co2O6を高温高圧法で熱処理し、"ポスト層状ペロブスカイト型構造"に大きく構造を転移させることに成功した。この変化は12%以上の巨大な体積変化を伴う。これまでの研究の結果、新構造体自体はハーフメタル特性を有さないが、さらに、置換実験等を進めて、特性開発を進めることができれば、ハーフメタル特性の発現のよち可能性があることが分かってきた。今後も研究を継続することが望ましい。
また、本研究課題遂行の過程で新物質NaOsO3を発見し、この物質が示す金属絶縁体転移の研究を進めた。室温より高温で生じるため、新原理技術の基礎となる可能性がある。この研究期間中に中性子回折実験、第一原理計算による電子状態の検証、元素置換実験を実施し、その転移の性質がかなり明らかになった。これまでに、温度変化によってのみ金属絶縁体転移が誘起されているが、光学的な方法や電界効果によるキャリアー注入法など新たな方法で誘起が可能になれば、伝導-非伝導、磁性-非磁性間の高速スイッチ動作素子を開発できるかも知れない。今後さらに同じ方向で研究を継続することができれば新原理を基礎とする先端技術を開発できる可能性がある。
