Research Abstract

細菌べん毛は、細胞膜を透過するイオンの流れをエネルギーとして回転する生体超分子モーターであるが、その回転の機構はほとんどわかっていないのが現状である。生体分子機械の作動原理の解明は、生命科学のみならずナノテクノロジーへの応用に向けても重要な課題である。本申請研究では、イオン流のモーター回転力への変換を担う細胞膜中のナトリウムチャネルPomABの三次元構造を、低温電子顕微鏡法、X線結晶回折法により、高分解能で解析する。
