Research Abstract

スズメバチ類による刺傷事故は林野作業等の大きな障害であるため、ハチの数を制御する環境低負荷的な方法の開発が必要である。そこでスズメバチ女王を不妊化するスズメバチセンチュウの生物的防除素材としての能力の評価を試みた。今までの調査から、スズメバチセンチュウに寄生されたスズメバチの女王は、次世代の女王(新女王)の越冬場所である朽木で線虫の幼虫を放出し、そこで越冬に入った新女王が線虫に感染することがわかった。これにより、スズメバチの越冬場所に線虫を人為的に散布することでスズメバチに効率よく感染させる可能性が示された。また、日本に生息している大型スズメバチ(スズメバチ属)7種の女王を捕獲して宿主範囲を調べたところ、スズメバチセンチュウは、キイロスズメバチ、オオスズメバチ、チャイロスズメバチに寄生していることが明らかになった。西表島のスズメバチからは検出されなかったが、北海道から九州にかけての日本本土各地からスズメバチセンチュウが検出された。しかし、その寄生率には地域で差があった。これらから、スズメバチセンチュウ寄生率の非常に低い地域では、この線虫を散布して寄生率を高められる余地があると考えられた。とくに攻撃性の強い種であるキイロスズメバチとオオスズメバチの女王に寄生して不妊にすること、日本本土に広く分布している可能性が高いこと、そして感染経路と感染場所が明らかになったこと、を考慮して、スズメバチセンチュウはスズメバチの有望な生物的防除素材と評価した。
