Research Abstract |
Pathogenic mechanisms of intracerebral hemorrhage, a neurological disorder for which no effective drug therapies are available, were investigated in experimental animal models. Potential therapeutic effects of drugs that regulate functions of microglia, brain-resident immune cell population were also investigated. Obtained results have revealed that excessively activated microglia contribute to brain tissue damage following intracerebral hemorrhage, and that several low-molecular-weight compounds such as synthetic retinoids can produce therapeutic effects.
