Research Abstract |
This project attempts to examine the significance of "the South Pacific" both in European imaginations and the contemporary Pacific literary works : How Europeans have generated the imaginary Pacific in their literature and how contemporary indigenous writers employ or decline those traditional ideas in creating their own identity. In order to provide another perspective, it also refers to Japanese literary representations of the region in the prewar period.
