Research Abstract |
We collected important metaphorical expressions which are often used in English textbooks for Japanese high school students. We then made a test on these important English metaphorical expressions, and administered it for college students. We also investigated the cognition lying in these English metaphorical expressions and tried to show how to teach these expressions effectively. It is found out that we should teach concrete meanings first and then go on to teach abstract meanings.
