Research Abstract

恒星の進化末期には激しい質量放出がなされる。宇宙における"物質の輪廻"に大きく関わるこの現象は、実は極めて複雑である。特に、恒星は極めて球形に近いにも関わらず、宇宙空間にまき散らされるガスの分布や運動が球対称的なものから著しく異なることは、注目に値する。では、このような質量放出現象の非球対称性は、恒星進化途上の何時どのように発現するのか?本研究テーマは、星周ガス分布/運動の非球対称性を生み出す主要因と考えられる恒星からの細長い高速ガス放出流(ジェット)が、何時どのように駆動され発現するのかを解明することである。本年度では主に、(1)このような天体に付随する水蒸気メーザーメーザースポット群の三次元運動の解明、(2)「宇宙の噴水」天体の距離と銀河系中での運動の計測、さらに(3)一酸化炭素輝線分光観測によるジェットの全体像の把握、を行った。その結果は以下にまとめられる。(1)観測されたジェット天体の1つで、見かけ上二重螺旋構造を持つジェットを発見した。このようなパターンは、ジェットが磁気流体力学的な作用を受けてガス放出しつつ、その主軸が歳差を伴っており、さらに、1つの天体が断続的にジェットを放出していることを示唆する。(2)「宇宙の噴水」天体や関連する天体、併せて3天体について、正確な年周視差計測に成功した。そのうち2件は査読論文として報告した。(3)一酸化炭素輝線も水蒸気メーザー同様に高速度成分をもち、かつ^<12>CO/^<13>CO強度比が極端に低いことも示された。どうやら「宇宙の噴水」天体は、比較的大きな質量を持つ星であるらしい。これらのことは、それぞれ異なる質量を持つ恒星がその後それぞれどのような進化を遂げて星周空間に異なる影響を与えるのかを理解するのに大いにつながるものである。特に、太陽よりやや重い星々の進化とそれらの星々による星周物質の進化の解明へとつながることが期待される。
