Research Abstract |
We explored the role of TGF-β family that regulates a broad range of biological processes and Mitf that is a tissue-specific transcription factor, in the process of RANKL-induced osteoclast formation. This study indicates that Mitf-E plays a crucial role in osteoclastogenesis, and that the TGF-β family positively regulates the expression of Mitf-E as well as osteoclast marker genes. Stimulatory activity of the TGF-β family on osteoclastogenesis may be partly elicited through up-regulation of Mitf-E.
