Research Abstract |
Possible role of orexin (hypocretin), a hypothalamic neuropeptide, in body temperature regulation was investigated using genetically engineered mice. Orexin containing neurons are indispensable for tress-induced thermogenesis although they minimally contribute to basal body temperature. Surprisingly, not orexin but co-transmitters contained in the orexin neurons are important for stress-induced thermogenesis.
