Research Abstract |
N-Acyltransferase is an enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of anandamide (an endogenous ligand of cannabinoid receptors) and related fatty acid amide compounds in animal tissues, and transfers a fatty acyl chain from a glycerophospholipid molecule to phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) to form N-acyl-PE. We found a novel enzyme catalyzing this reaction, cloned its cDNA from rat, mouse, and human, and characterized its recombinant proteins.
