| Research Abstract |
Increased iron absorption from the gastrointestinal tract causes hepatic iron accumulation, resulting in hepatic oxidative damage. We found that hepcidin expression increases and it upregulates FP-1 expression in small intestine in patients with chronic hepatitis C.
