Research Abstract |
Angiopoietin-1 has been shown to protect the adult vasculature against plasma leakage. In contrast, angiopoietin-2, an antagonist of angiopoietin-1, induces loosening of interactions between endothelial and perivascular support cells, and subsequently reduces vascular integrity. Thus, angiopoietin-1 and -2 may play complementary and coordinated roles in airway angiogenesis and microvascular remodeling.
