Research Abstract |
Superoxide dismutase (SOD) is an antioxidant enzyme that eliminates one of reactive oxygen species (ROS) of superoxide. In this study, we examined the ability of SOD to restore ROS-induced salivary gland dysfunction. Our results suggested that SOD may protect against salivary gland dysfunction induced by ROS, presumably by rapidly converting superoxide to hydrogen peroxide.
