Research Abstract |
We developed an adult stem cell=precursor cell isolation method (the sphere-forming assay) for corneal epithelial, stromal, and endothelial cells, which could isolate cells with differences of telomere length, telomerase activity, and characteristics reflecting senescence. We demonstrated transplantation of corneal epithelial sheet using epithelial precursors, stromal sheet using keratocyte precursors combined with gelatin hydrogel, or spheres of endothelial precursors to the cornea is a possible treatment strategy for corneal regeneration.
