Research Abstract |
This study clarified that the belief in Miraculous Buddhist images, which give profits and Miracles in Nara region (Nanto) since ancient era, spread its copies all over Japan and had great influence in the history of Japanese Buddhist sculpture. And also clarified that the activity of the most famous Japanese Buddhist sculptor, Unkei in the early Kamakura period involved closely with the belief in miraculous Buddhist image especially in Nanto region. Some of the research results were open to the public with the exhibition "Unkei" (2011) in Kanagawa Prefectural Kanazawabunko Museum.
