| Research Abstract |
本研究計画の概要であるが、マルチアーカイバルな資料調査をもとに、戦前の日米関係を再構成し、太平洋戦争へと至るプロセスをより整合性をもって説明することが主目的である。インテリジェンスだけをもって全てを説明しようとするのは誤りでしかないが、他方、インテリジェンスを全く考慮しない開戦決定過程というのもまた不完全な歴史像の構築へとつながる。双方のバランスに留意しながら本研究ではSIGINTが日米関係、さらには両国の政策決定過程のもたらした影響を考察し、新たな歴史解釈を提示する。くわえて、未だ謎の多い日米両国の情報機関の実態をそれぞれ解明・検証することも本研究の副次的な目的である。
