Research Abstract

This research project examines the red herring hypothesis concerning population aging and health care expenditures. We construct an original macro level panel dataset covering 30 OECD countries and reveal that tinder several econometric specifications the proxy for population aging shows a positive and highly significant estimate in most cases. By these results, we conclude that red herring hypotheses supported by many micro data analyses have no validity within the present research.
