Research Abstract |
I reexamined the status of 100 families of single mothers in order to observe whether they continue to work at jobs introduced to them through the Workfare program in 2006. I discovered that over 80% of these mothers were still working at their former occupations, a result also revealed their incomes were slightly higher than 2006. While this was a positive trend, these families were still living in comparative poverty. However, about 20% of the total number of families surveyed had had to borrow money to make a living. Through the assistance of the Work First program these mothers had found work that would keep them busy, the work did not produce enough income for them to improve their families’ economic situations.
