価数制御による室温強磁性・強誘電性マルチフェロイック薄膜の創成

Research Abstract

本研究の目的は、ペロブスカイト型反強磁性体であるBiFeO_3のBサイトの価数を制御することで局所的なフェリ磁性配列を実現し、室温以上で強磁性・強誘電性を兼備したマルチフェロイック物質を創成することである。平成20年度はCo, Cr, Ni, Mn, Cuなど様々な3d遷移金属を添加して、膜構造、磁気特性および強誘電性を系統的に調査した。[H. Naganuma et al, APL, 93, 052901 (2008) ]その結果、CoはβサイトのFeを置換しており[H.Naganuma et al, 47, 7574 (2008) ]、自発磁化が発現していることが明らかとなった。BiFeO_3に添加物を入れると、自発磁化が発現すると同時にリーク電流が増大する傾向にあることが一般に報告されている[Z.X.Cheng et al, JAP, 104, 116109 (2008) ]が、Co置換の場合は高電界側でリーク電流が低減していることがわかった。そのメカニズムについては不明であるが、リーク電流が抑えられた結果として、Co置換では強誘電性を損なうことなく自発磁化を発現させることに成功した。以上のことから、本申請の第一段階の目的は既に達成されたので、平成21年度は第二段階の目的である「ME効果の観測」へ発展させる計画にある。
