Research Abstract |
In this study, we documented the appearance of epicormic branches after implementing heavy line-thinning in a 46-year-old Cryptomeria japonica plantation. About 30% of the epicormic branches appeared soon after thinning at relatively high positions on the trunk. Our results suggested that shading the trunk with shading cloth may prevent epicormic branching.
