Research Abstract

Present studies were performed to investigate pathophysiologic features related with diabetes and thrombosis, the main factor of cardiovascular risk, in the WBN/Kob-Lepr(fa) rat, a novel model of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It revealed that WBN/Kob-Lepr(fa) rats share a number of common features with human type 2 diabetic patients including obesity, insulin-resistance, damaged pancreatic β cells and abnormal thrombotic biomarkers. WBN/Kob-Lepr(fa) rats may be useful for diabetic researches.
