Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
To finalize the research project, we have done the following experiments and analyses: 1) Experimental inoculation of endophytic fungi on model plant species: 2) Finalization of the tests for calibrating the necessary condition to successfully achieve stable isotope tracing techniques: these tests allowed us to characterize the necessary conditions to achieve measurable amounts of stable isotope tracer incorporated in different biomarkers for fungi and in plant biomass: 3) Carrying an in vitro experiment to test competition dynamics between different root endophytic fungi and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi during nitrogen and carbon exchange with a model plant: this experiment allowed us to understand how endophytic fungi that carried similar function to AMF could modify the trading feature of carbon and nitrogen exchange in the AMF-plant symbiosis: 4) Carrying a pot experiment to validate the in vitro results: this experiment allowed us to generalize the findings obtained in in vitro conditions to soil-grown plants: 5) Transcriptomic analyses (RNA sequencing) of the model plant specimens used for the inoculation experiments of endophytic fungi. 6) In-silico analyses of the RNA-sequencing datasets mentioned above.
