Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
During this period he had worked on two important projects. One is on formulating a non-local theory of gravity that is ghost-free both in Minkowski and quasi deSitter spacetimes. This required a significant extension of his previous research on this subject. The second project is on finding anisotropic bouncing solutions in non-local gravity. This project was important in the context of resolving cosmological singularities with nonlocal theories and also in making a geodesic completion for inflationary space-time. Also during this period, he had started to work on non-local scalar field theories and their cosmological implications.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
We will focus on theoretical aspects of non-local theories. The discovery of trace anomaly has posed a big challenge to any approach towards quantum gravity. It must be removed for a consistent quantum gravity theory though it motivated one to propose the first inflation model. We will study if introducing infinite derivative non-locality in the matter Lagrangians and generalising matter coupling to gravity can resolve this problem and give finite quantum corrections to gravity. This is an important investigation for non-local gravitational theories in bringing them a step closer to quantum gravity.
