Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The goal of the collaborative research was to asses the impacts of habitat loss and introduction of alien species on the pollination interaction networks of the Ogasawara Islands. To this end, it was needed to join forces between the postdoctoral fellow and her experience on designing and conducting long-term ecological field researches and her skills on analysis of mutualistic interaction networks and my long experience on insect biology, animal behavior, with special focus on Hymenoptera, and coordination of international research projects based in Japan. The post-doctoral fellowship has been highly fruitful. The exhaustive field work has been effectively accomplished and the first results are very promising, despite the delays that imposed by COVID-19. While no papers have yet been published from the collaboration, Marta has started the analysis and at least three high-impact articles will be prepared in the near future. The fellow will continue working on the project in her new position in Spain and JSPS and the TMU will be acknowledged in all scientific output. Additional collaborative research projects are ongoing. In addition to research outputs, Marta has made a very significant contribution to students at TMU. She has formed master and undergraduate students in the methods of field-based ecological research and taught them basic zoology and botany in the field.
