Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In this monograph, in continuation with the research topics, collected data and accomplishments from my Phd research (focused on Nakajima’s collection of short stories Kansho;), as a JSPS PD fellow I expanded my study to the broader subject of Nakajima’s literary experience of colonialism, taking into account also his novels set in colonial Korea, but also novels seemingly unrelated with Nakajima’s experience of the colony. In analyzing the narrator’s Self as an ever-shifting “zone” endlessly engaged in redefining its own “borders”, I focused on the perception of Alterity in the novels’ colonial context. As for the research results, roughly from April 2021 to Aug 2022, including the abovementioned monograph, I produced 4 articles, 2 papers and 6 presentations. In addition, in the first half of 2022, I also made a survey in Bologna University (Italy) on the recent situation of Nakajima’s studies in English and particularly in Italian.
