Outline of Final Research Achievements

A fluid control device called a plasma actuator, which induces ion winds associated with a dielectric barrier discharge by applying a high voltage to the surface of a fluid machine, consists only of electrodes and a dielectric separating them, and is expected to be applied to actual fluid machines because of its simplicity of installation, structural flexibility that does not interfere with the original performance of fluid machines, and immediate response without mechanical deformation. In this research project, we focused on the fact that the performance of fluid machinery depends greatly on the behavior of electric charges accumulated on the surface, and aimed to improve its performance and functions by controlling the surface charges through multiplication of electrodes, appropriate voltage applying method, and observation of surface charge. In addition, a dynamic control system using simultaneous measurement and a fabrication method using printed electrodes were also proposed.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
