Creation and characterization of electronic structures of organic-modified metal superatoms with well-defined geometric structures

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

有機分子で表面修飾された金属超原子は、新たなナノスケールの機能単位として期待されている。本研究では、高収率・大量合成法、および孤立状態での構造・安定性・物性の評価方法の開発を通して、表面修飾超原子の基礎学理の構築と応用研究への展開を目指す。最終年度は下記の成果を得た。
1)1原子がドープされた正二十面体超原子M@Au12(M = Pd, Pt, Ir, Ni, Rh)を高効率に合成し、電子構造に対するドーピング効果をジェリウムモデルに基づいた概念で統一的に解釈した。フォトルミネッセンスや円二色発光などの光学的特性に対する顕著なドープ効果を実証した。
2)N-ヘテロ環状カルベンを用いて、2個のAu12超原子がヒドリドで3点架橋された新規超原子分子Au24を得た。また、ヒドリドによる活性化を利用して、Au13とM@Au12 (M=Pt, Pd)超原子を融合させた異核の超原子分子を初めて合成することに成功した。さらに、光電子分光と理論計算によって超原子価結合法に基づく結合論を検証した。
3)高分子で保護されたAu38およびAu23Pdの原子精度合成に成功した。高分解能電子顕微鏡観察と理論計算によって、幾何構造の多様性と柔軟性を明らかにした。さらに、昨年度合成したAu24を参照として、酸化触媒性能に対するサイズおよびドープ効果を明らかにした。
4)改良した装置を用いて光電子スペクトルの再検証を行ったところ、以前に報告した光電子スペクトルに電子励起状態を経由した2光子過程の寄与があることが明らかになった。代表的なAu13, Ag13超原子の電子親和力が、ハロゲンの電子親和力と同程度の大きい値を持つことを明らかにした。また、多価の銀超原子負イオンにおいて、真空準位よりエネルギー的に上に位置する励起状態を経由したトンネル電子脱離過程を見出した。
