本研究は研究代表者により独自に確立された老化細胞蓄積促進マウス、p16陽性老化細胞可視化マウスと個体からの老化細胞除去技術などを駆使することで、加齢性発がん機構の解明を目指すものである。本研究の成果は学術的意義のみならず高齢者がんの罹病性抑止へと繋がる可能性も期待され社会的波及も大きい。
加齢と発がん機構の解明とその成果に基づく効果的ながんの予防、診断、治療法の開発は喫緊の課題である。研究代表者は、老化細胞可視化技術、老化細胞促進マウス作出、個体からの老化細胞除去技術を独自に開発し、既にこれら技術を用いて老化細胞特異的現象と分子メカニズムの解明において実績を有しており、今後、加齢に伴う発癌機構の解明において更なる成果が期待される。
