Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Tensed-up bilateral relations between Korea and Japan have been very much visible in diplomatic relations and the well-being of residents in both countries, thereby leading to unstable peace and security in the Korean Peninsula and the East Asia region. The purpose of the project was to formulate, implement and evaluate evidence-based programmatic efforts on peace and disarmament education in selected Japanese and Korean universities, and other relevant non-university settings. Several methods of inquiry were implemented to answer these questions, including surveys, syllabus analyses, program interviews/needs assessment in Japan and Korea, curriculum development and pilot-testing, online meetings, and policy provisions. The main findings were: (1) Developing mutually viable peace and disarmament education is an arduous process where both parties must be in sync with each other on the conceptual and methodological differences; (2) College contexts would provide the ideal environment for implementing and evaluating peace education programs; and (3) Continuing efforts for further development in peace education must be needed for the wider dissemination of peace education in higher education.
