Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This project examined the career path outcomes of international and domestic domestic undergraduate students in English-medium instruction programs. Results indicated that graduates of EMI programs in Japan are following different paths. For domestic students, EMI offers an advantage and opens new doors in their job hunting. They are well supported by existing career-planning services and the international aspects of their education make them attractive candidates. For international students, lack of Japanese-language proficiency is a barrier to entry for not only job-hunting itself, but also the systems intended to support the job hunting process. They have to work outside the mainstream career planning framework to seek opportunities, many returning home or moving to a third country.
