Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Texture is generally defined by friction and surface roughness. The distinguishing feature of our research is the realization of highly realistic haptic feedback using a two-dimensional tactile display that can present both electrostatic friction stimuli and mechanical vibration stimuli. The first goal is to demonstrate that the two-dimensional haptic display is superior to conventional displays that present only friction or mechanical vibration stimuli. We showed, through participant experiments, that the combination of friction and vibration stimuli is more appropriate. The second goal is to integrate the two main texture generation algorithms at the time of our research or its commencement: 1) physical model type and 2) statistical model type. The integrated model provided a superior haptic experience compared to the physical model type.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
