本研究では、土壌有機炭素-粘土鉱物界面の解析によって有機炭素の蓄積メカニズムを解明し、また微生物群集組成および活性の解析によって有機炭素の分解メカニズムを明らかにする。さらにそれらが、実測された土壌有機炭素の分解・蓄積を説明できるかを検証し、土壌有機炭素動態の予測に重要なメカニズムを特定する。本年度は、インドネシアおよびタンザニアの火山帯における土壌有機炭素の量と安定性について解析をすすめた。土壌粘土鉱物、気候、生物が分解性の異なる炭素プールに与える影響について解析し、気候因子がより分解性の高い土壌炭素プールに影響しており、一方、地化学的な因子がより分解性が低く安定している土壌炭素プールに影響し、全体の土壌炭素プールのサイズを規定していることを示した。地化学的な因子については、土壌の粒径組成やpHよりも、活性アルミニウム・鉄の寄与が大きかった。さらに、異なる深度の土壌（表層土壌と下層土壌）における有機炭素の安定性を比較し、下層土壌では、有機炭素がより分解性の高い炭素プールに多く含まれることを示した。また、気候が、土壌粘土鉱物と有機物の分布を通して、土壌の電荷特性に与える影響の解明に取り組み、湿潤地域では、気温の低下に伴いナノ結晶鉱物と有機物の複合体が増加し、有機物由来の変異電荷が卓越すること、乾燥地域では、粘土鉱物の結晶化がより進行し、結晶性粘土鉱物由来の一定電荷が大きくなることを明らかにした。

Reason
土壌有機炭素の培養に伴う分解と土壌有機炭素の分画の分析結果に基づいて、土壌有機炭素を分解性の異なるプールに分け、各プールに対して重要な気候および地化学的因子を明らかにした。また、半乾燥熱帯（タンザニア）の火山灰土壌を対象として、有機物および粘土鉱物の地域的な分布と電荷特性の間の関係を明らかにした。半乾燥熱帯（インド）の非火山性土壌を13-C標識植物体を施用した後に培養し、施用した土壌有機炭素の蓄積に寄与する因子の解析を進めた。

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
土壌中の有機炭素の蓄積メカニズム、分解メカニズムについての解析を進める。まず、有機炭素の分解特性が異なる多様な土壌に対して有機物の熱分解分析を行い、蓄積している有機物の化学性を明らかにする。また、微生物群集構造を解析するとともに、その土壌有機炭素の量・化学性、気候および土壌特性値との関係を明らかにすることで、微生物による有機炭素分解についての解析を進める。また、土壌有機炭素分解の温度依存性を測定し、有機炭素蓄積・分解メカニズムの影響を検討する。
