Outline of Final Research Achievements	In this study, we developed an environmental educational program that promotes environmental civic actions (ex. campaigns, demonstrations, signature campaigns, etc.) that involve collaboration with others and influence society. This educational program was implemented it in four junior and senior high schools. In the survey to design the educational program, interviews were used to clarify the factors and process that lead young people to practice civic action, and advanced examples from UNESCO Schools in Japan were also studied. The educational program designed based on the findings of these surveys was implemented in comprehensive inquiry classes over a period of six months to a year in collaboration with school officials, and it was confirmed that the motivation, knowledge, and skills of students regarding civic action had improved.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements	これまで、個人が日常生活内で行う環境配慮行動については、その要因やプロセスに関する研究が広く行われてきたが、他者と協働し社会に働きかけるシビック・アクションについては、十分な研究がなかった。またシビック・アクションの促進を目的とした教育プログラムは、欧米では広く開発・実践されているものの、日本では研究も実践もほとんど行われていなかった。本研究をきっかけに、地域や社会を持続可能なものに変えようとする能動的なアクションの実践を目指した教育プログラムやその効果が、学校現場を中心に広く認知されるようになり、環境教育の新たな潮流を開いたと言える。
