Outline of Annual Research Achievements

The two members have separately conducted fieldwork in his field site.
As for Decha Tangseefa, there were 2 important elements in the last fiscal year:
1) Last December, he organized the 47th SEA Seminar along the Thai-Myanmar border, with partial funding from this Kakenhi. The seminar's report can be read at: https://kyoto.cseas.kyoto-u.ac.jp/seas47/#report. All the seminar's reflection papers will be submitted in a special issue of the Kyoto Review of Southeast Asia, June 2024.
2) The knowledge gained from this research has enabled him to contribute, as a co-editor (with Dr. Yos Santasombat and Dr. Kian Cheng Lee), to a volume entitled, “BRI In Southeast Asia: Concepts and Methodologies." The manuscript was already reviewed; and we are waiting for funding to publish the book.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.

Reason

Apart from each member visiting his own field site for the last time, we plan to have the team members visiting the China-Myanmar border. In the process, the team will also gradually develop the first draft of the overall research report. Moreover, though Dr. Xiaobo Hua is not officially within the team, in reality, he continues to be a member of our research pursuit, hence enabling the team to continue our comparative endeavor of all the borders that we study. Before the end of the fiscal year, we will also organize a seminar in Kyoto.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

Our upcoming plan is for each to separately continue his field research in his field site for the last time. Moreover, in August, 2023, the team will also conduct fieldwork along the China-Myanmar border region for the last time. After which, the team will gradually develop the first draft of the research report. Lastly, the team will continue refining its analysis, and gradually develop a couple of papers to be presented in some academic conferences or gatherings in due course.
