Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、原子層物質科学と量子光学の知見を合わせ新たなバレースピン量子光学を創出することにある。我々は、バレースピン自由度を一つの量子状態として見做し制御する新たな道筋を独自に見出しており、これと原子層人工ヘテロ構造からなる究極のゼロ次元量子構造により、バレースピン量子光学の学理を構築し、それを応用へと繋げ新しい研究の潮流を生み出すことを目的としている。当該年度の研究実績は以下の通りである。
[1] 原子層人工ヘテロ量子ドットおよびデバイス作製技術:本研究で提案する量子光デバイスの実現に向け、そのプラットフォームとなる原子層半導体人工ヘテロ構造作製の高度化を進めた。特に、人工ヘテロ構造の品質は本研究進捗の要であり、真空中でのクリーンな界面を有するヘテロ構造作製システムの構築を進めた。
[2] 原子層ヘテロ量子ドットの励起子状態と量子光学現象の開拓:原子層モアレ構造が零次元的(量子ドット)な量子状態を有していることを確認するために、干渉系を利用した時間領域での測定手法の確立を試みた。時間領域でバレー励起子のコヒーレンス(位相緩和)の実時間計測に成功した。その際に、コヒーレンス時間に応じて、複数の実験システムを構築し上記の結果を得た。併せて、デコヒーレンスが生じる物理メカニズムの解明を進めた。
[3] バレースピン量子デバイスの実現:バレースピン量子光学に向けた基盤技術として、バレースピン量子制御を利用し、その情報を外部に出力するデバイスが必要となる。そのため、高品質な原子層人工ヘテロ構造作製による電界効果トランジスタ構造を組み合わせ、デバイス作製を継続して進めた。

Reason

極限的なクリーンな界面を有する原子層人工ヘテロ構造に向け、その作製技術の高度化と先端分光の光学系の立ち上げが、順調に進捗した。また、原子層人工ヘテロ構造に微細加工を施し、本研究の成否において重要な鍵となる、モアレポテンシャルに閉じ込められた単一のモアレ励起子のコヒーレンス測定に成功するなど、学術的な大幅な進展が得られている。ここで得られた研究成果は、様々な形で学術的にも発展しうる内容を含んでおり、当初の計画以上に進展していると判断した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

現在、作製技術の高度化の別のアプローチとして、ロボット技術を利用した作製のきっかけが得られている。それを利用し作製精度や再現性の向上など、更に高品質な人工ヘテロ構造作製を可能とすることで、研究進捗を大幅に加速する。これと併せて、モアレ励起子のコヒーレンス時間や量子状態制御など、本研究の最終的な目標である新たな量子光学の構築に向けた研究を展開する予定である。
