Outline of Annual Research Achievements

フェリ磁性体は、2種類の磁気モーメントが反強磁性的に結合しながらも正味の磁化を有する物質である。磁化の大きさは組成や温度で調整可能で、2種類の磁気モーメントが完全に打ち消し合い反強磁性体のように磁化がゼロとなる状況も実現可能である。
研究代表者らは、フェリ磁性GdFeCo合金が「磁化を持つ反強磁性体として振る舞う」ことを最近見いだした。本研究では、フェリ磁性体の「磁化を持つ反強磁性体」としての振る舞いの普遍性と多様性を明らかにすることで、「フェリ磁性スピントロニクス」という新しい学理を構築し、デバイス応用へ展開することを目的とする。
本研究課題の核心をなす学術的「問い」は、フェリ磁性体の新しい側面「磁化を持つ反強磁性体としての振る舞い」は「普遍的なものか?」、そして「革新的デバイス応用へつながるか?」である。この学術的「問い」に答えるために、本研究では、(1)フェリ磁性体の磁化を持つ反強磁性体としての振る舞いの普遍性と多様性を明らかにするとともに、(2)その特徴を活かしたデバイス応用への展開を図ることで、フェリ磁性スピントロニクスの基盤を構築する。
本年度は、Gd3Fe5O12薄膜のスピンダンピングがフェリ磁性合金薄膜の1/10程度であり、フェリ磁性体を利用したスピン波デバイス等への応用可能性が高いことを論文発表した。また、人工反強磁性体においてモード選択的に反強磁性共鳴を励起することが可能であることを示し論文発表を行った。さらに、フェリ磁性Gd-Co薄膜の磁気共鳴を電気的に検出する手法を開発し論文発表を行った。
