Outline of Annual Research Achievements

The poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) based molecularly imprinted hydrogel (MIH) was fabricated for the molecular recognition of the target protein. Copoly(PEG acrylate/PEG diacrylate) (copoly(PEGA/PEGDA)) hydrogel was employed in the preparation of MIH for cytochrome c recognition. A highly specific molecular recognition was realized when using the MIH as a sorbent, evidenced by (1) the MIH showed adsorption to the cytochrome c target while the non-imprinted hydrogel showed no adsorption to the target, and (2) the MIH hydrogel showed higher adsorption to the cytochrome c target than to the other unspecific proteins. When tested as the affinity substance in electrophoresis, the MIH retarded the migration of cytochrome c to a higher extent compared with the other unspecific proteins.
