Outline of Annual Research Achievements

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the dynamics of respiratory infectious diseases including influenza and secondary pneumonia were significantly affected. Therefore, it is crucial to comprehend COVID-19 dynamics to reconstruct the actual dynamics of two diseases. After consulting with Hiroshi Nishiura at Kyoto University, we decided to explore COVID-19 transmission in addition to the originally proposed study. In this fiscal year, myriad studies on the dynamics of COVID-19 in Japan have been conducted. Among them, the published paper aimed to develop a framework for predicting the effective reproduction number using timely accessible data, providing essential information for timely assessment of countermeasures.
